Black Bear

Black Bear

Black bears (also known as American black bears) are the most widely distributed bears in North America. They are medium-sized, typically with black fur, though individuals can also be brown, cinnamon, or even white. They inhabit forested areas, ranging from dense woodlands to shrublands and mountains. Black bears are omnivores, with a diet including berries, nuts, insects, fish, and small mammals. They are skilled climbers, often ascending trees to escape danger. While generally mild-mannered, they can be aggressive, especially when protecting cubs or food sources. They are important seed dispersers and scavengers in their ecosystems.
